About Richard Carey
RC/A Digital Media is led by Richard Carey, a media product development veteran and visionary with hands-on experience spanning digital media, educational technology, television and film.
Over more than 20 years, Richard has led the strategy, design, development and production of social media and games, e-learning, e-business and video products in three market verticals: consumer products, traditional and digital media, educational technology and publishing.
Before organizing RC/A, Richard was Director of Technology Product Development for Pearson Education's PLG division. In that role he recruited and managed a team that developed web based math, reading and fluency intervention programs, a major upgrade of the company's flagship reading assessment system using Anoto digital pen/paper technology, and a single-sign-on system for all Pearson Learning Group's online products.
Prior to Pearson Education, Richard held leadership roles in product development at Scholastic, RCA and Houghton Mifflin.
As an entrepreneur, he has been a principal at several media production and marketing
companies, including Television Theater Company, iFast Corporation and Interactive Magic Associates. In this capacity Richard produced and directed film and video entertaiment, documentaries, site-based multimedia exhibits and marketing communications for ABC, CBS, Disney, HBO, Showtime, Universal, Pepsi, Dow Jones and other leading brands.
Richard is also a public speaker, writer and blogger on serious games, social media and emerging web technologies. He has moderated and appeared on panels at ProMax, the world's premier gathering of promotion and marketing professionals, at the Software and Information Industry Association, the Game Developers Conference and the Seybold Conference. He has also covered recent Games, Learning & Society, Dust or Magic and SIIA conference as blogger, video blogger and reporter.
Richard received his BA in Film and Education from Goddard College. He lives in Brooklyn, New York and when not designing and building virtual worlds is an avid downhill skier, mountain biker, naturalist and still photographer.
