Richard Carey is a media visionary who has led the strategy, design, development and production of education, entertainment and business media for more than 20 years.
Today, Richard provides consulting and development services in these fields. He recently founded Intentional Games to develop and publish games and simulations that support personal growth and life-long learning. And using the nom de guerre The Brooklyn Blogfather Richard also offers WordPress design, development and support services to creatives, professionals, businesses and organizations.
Previously, as the Director of Technology Product Development for Pearson Education, Richard created complex online learning applications for the K-12 education market. In that role he led the product management and development of web based math, reading and fluency intervention programs, a major upgrade of the company’s flagship reading assessment system, and a single-sign-on system for all Pearson Learning Group’s online products.
Before joining Pearson, Richard held a leadership role in emerging technology research and product development for Scholastic’s Internet and Software Group, where he led the design and implementation of Clubs Ordering OnLine and was responsible for numerous new product initiatives. Previously, he was head of production at RCA Records, head of production for Television Theater Company, and documentary director/cameraman for the HM Multi-Media division of Houghton Mifflin.
A life-long entrepreneur as well, Richard has been a founding principal of iFast Corporation, Interactive Magic Associates and Television Theater Company. He has developed online business applications, produced and directed film and video entertainment, site-based multimedia exhibits and marketing communications for ABC, CBS, Disney, HBO, Showtime, Universal, Pepsi, Dow Jones and other leading brands.
Richard is also a public speaker, writer and blogger on serious games, social media and emerging web technologies. He has moderated and appeared on panels at ProMax, the world’s premier gathering of promotion and marketing professionals, at the Software and Information Industry Association, the Game Developers Conference and the Seybold Conference. He has also covered recent Games, Learning & Society, Dust or Magic and SIIA conference as blogger, video blogger and reporter.
Richard received his BA in Film and Education from Goddard College. He lives in Brooklyn, New York and when not designing and building virtual worlds is an avid downhill skier, mountain biker, naturalist and still photographer.
